The Centre was established in response to growing regional demand for secure and resilient digital infrastructure, as rising data use continues to place increasing pressure on systems across the region. Undersea cables carry 99 per cent of international data traffic and are therefore essential to global connectivity, economic growth, and access to digital services.
The Centre supports countries across the Indo-Pacific to ensure cable networks are well-managed, protected, and prepared for future needs. This helps ensure all countries across the Indo-Pacific can benefit from reliable connectivity and fully participate in the digital economy.
Drawing on Australia’s expertise in undersea cable protection, regulation, and management, the Centre builds on Australia’s strong reputation as a trusted and experienced partner in digital infrastructure, known for delivering secure and sustainable solutions. It also expands on major investments in Pacific cable infrastructure through the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific, and regulatory and policy support in Southeast Asia via the Partnerships for Infrastructure.
This work forms part of Australia’s contribution to the Quad Partnership on Cable Connectivity and Resilience, with the Centre working closely with Quad partners and regional stakeholders to promote best practice.
